Senior Snapshot: Madison Forsberg

Each month, The VanCougar profiles a WSU Vancouver senior and asks them about their college experiences – both positive and negative, inspiring and challenging. For this first installment of the column, Madison Forsberg, a finance major from Kelso, WA, answered five questions posed by VanCougar Managing Editor Jordhen Wangchuk and Staff Reporter Scarlet Mason

Q: What is the hardest part about being a senior?

“I have had the most difficulty with juggling all of my responsibilities. I am beyond grateful to be starting my career in finance and I really enjoy connecting with my peers on campus, but balancing everything can sometimes feel overwhelming. Between my coursework, work commitments, and active participation in clubs like Finance Club and Cougar Pride, there are moments when I find myself stretched thin. I strive to give my best in every area, but there are times when the demands of each can clash, leaving me feeling overextended. Despite these challenges, I am learning to manage my time more effectively and prioritize tasks, which has been an invaluable lesson in itself.”

Q: Is there a class you took or a person that changed your life?

“I have had so many influential professors during my time here at WSU. I feel so blessed to attend a university where the faculty is truly so supportive of students. Dr. Jenni Sandstrom is one professor who really sticks out to me with her positive presence on campus and her willingness to help students. I remember, during my second year I was still unsure of what major to choose and Jenni assisted me, having a full discussion about my options to help me determine which path was best for me. This discussion allowed me to feel confident in selecting finance as my major, which has led to so many other great opportunities.”

Q: Have you enjoyed your time at WSU Vancouver?

“I have loved my time here at WSU Vancouver and am excited to start my senior year! Being a part of this community has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve had the opportunity to make so many incredible friends who have become like family to me. The sense of camaraderie and support here is truly special. Moreover, I’ve been fortunate to connect with mentors who have not only guided me academically but also inspired me to grow personally and professionally. I look forward to making the most of my final year and continuing to cherish the connections I’ve made

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to current and incoming students, what would you tell them?

“Put yourself out there and get involved! I know I was a bit intimidated and shy when I first started college. Reaching out to classmates and getting involved in student organizations really improved my experience. I was able to find community and make lifelong friends here on campus.”

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at WSU Vancouver?

“Last spring I was granted the opportunity to represent the Carson College of Business at a finance forum called the Quinnipiac G.A.M.E. forum through a program called Cougs on Wall St. Through this program, I was able to travel to New York, learn about the future of the finance industry from leading professionals, and network with industry experts and influential figures in the financial sector.” “The forum opened my eyes to the challenges and opportunities in the finance industry. The connections I made and everything I learned have played a big role in shaping my career goals. Being in the fast-paced environment of New York City, surrounded by passionate and successful people, was incredibly inspiring and motivating. It was an unforgettable experience, and I am so thankful that WSU and the Carson College of Business provided me with this opportunity”
