Galentine’s day, the new Valentine’s day
Galentine’s day: a day to celebrate all the non-romantic relationships with the females in your life. This faux holiday, typically celebrated on Feb. 13 as featured on the television program Parks & Recreation, is dedicated to “ladies celebrating ladies” according to Leslie Knope, one of the main characters on the show. The holiday has made its way from TV into the real world; sometimes life imitates art. Here are a few tips on hosting your own Galentine’s day festivities.
To start your Galentine’s day off right, grab breakfast! Some popular breakfast restaurants near the WSU Vancouver campus like the Kitchen Table Cafe and Breakfast at Valerie’s are two possible options. These are both cheap and delicious places that are close by. For those looking for a finer fare, Chez Machin whips up sweet, savory and in-between crepes all day on Hawthorne street in Portland.
Another great activity for Galentine’s day might include getting pampered, so clearly, getting a manicure and pedicure is next on the day’s to-do list. My favorite place for that would be Lee’s nails, near the Goodwill in Salmon Creek. To take the pampering to the next level, head over to Oasis day spa for a facial. They usually have deals on Groupon that could help you save a good chunk of money.
And lastly, Galentine’s day would not be complete without a nice glass of rosé. In my opinion, the best rosé for Galentine’s Day evening is the Huckleberry Moscato by Tomasello Winery. This wine is only available online or at the winery in New Jersey, so plan to order this Galentine’s day treat ahead of the holiday. You can order some of this tasty wine here. Once you have a glass of rosé and your besties by your side, turn on Parks & Recreation and put your feet up.
At the end of the night, relax with your gal pals and remember what Leslie Knope always says, “ovaries before brovaries.”
