Oblivion Remastered Recaptures the Magic

Earlier this year, Bethesda Game Studios re-mastered their 2006 masterpiece The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, upping the graphics as well as the UI (user interface). But the game is already a master piece, already packed with incredible stories and a beautiful world.

It is set in the land of Cyrrodil, in the midst of a literal invasion from the Elder Scroll’s version of hell, called the “Oblivion realm.” Portals are opening up everywhere, with demons invading the country side.

In the midst of all this chaos, there is also the serene landscape of Cyrodill, with lush forests, ancient ruins, and plenty of random, strange encounters with eccentric characters.

There are 5 guilds to join, including the Fighters guild, the Mage’s guild, The Arena (imagine a gladiator’s career), the Thieve’s Guild, and the Dark Brotherhood (an assassination guild).

The dark brotherhood is a clear standout, with the character of Lucian Lechance being the main standout character, with his exaggerated cool factor and deep, dark, evil voice.

Meanwhile, the Thieve’s guild offers a brilliant set of creative quests, and for a more nuanced look at the desperate life of a thief.

The main quest is an epic adventure to save the lands from hell, with standout voice acting from Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart.

This remaster brings all of that back, with it’s beautiful music remastered as well, and new voice actors for all the random characters to increase variety in voice work.

Meanwhile, the menu is made much more read-able and modern, for greater ease-of-use, and a cleaner aesthetic.

Oblivion Remastered released earlier this year for $50 on Xbox, Playstation and PC, and is among one of the top selling games of this year. And for anyone enduring the long wait until The Elder Scrolls 6, the Oblivion remaster will tie you over until then.
