The Math and Science Skills Center (MSSC) is open for the Fall 2025 semester in its new location on the second floor of the Library Building in Room 210 at WSU Vancouver. Led by math professor Jin Sung and chemistry professor Jian (Jay) Wu, the center offers students help in

subjects such as chemistry, biology, physics, math, and statistics.
The MSSC offers free drop-in tutoring every day for all students regardless of major from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Students may also schedule one-on-one appointments with tutors for more help or sharpen their skills with free practice packets for factoring, algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus that can later be reviewed with tutor guidance.
The tutors are students who excel in math and science who were hired through application or recommendation by academic coordinators, according to Wu. Once candidates are vetted by their grades to check if they have ample experience and knowledge in the subject matter, they will then go on with the interview process. The center is working to add even more biology and chemistry courses to the list of class coursework they can help with, Wu said.
Students seeking help should drop in during the center’s operating hours and bring any materials related to their coursework, including labs, textbooks and other notes, and have their student ID ready to sign in. All tutors available will have a sign indicating the topic they specialize in.
