Hi VanCougs!
My name is Midori Davis and I am an associate managing editor of The VanCougar this semester. This is also my first term at WSU Vancouver as a transfer student majoring in DTC.
Previously, I worked at the Clark Indy as a reporter and editor and I am stoked to continue bringing local stories to our community. Our editor-in-chief Gracie Newberry was my first editor two years ago when both of us were at the Indy — her guidance and passion for quality journalism is a significant part of why I chose to continue this line of work, despite the limitations to newsroom operations at the time due to COVID-19. I’m glad I stuck with it, because I absolutely love the collaborative synergy of discussing story pitches, angles and layout ideas in-person with a team.
I am looking forward to getting well acquainted with my other colleagues at The VanCougar and furthering my skills in multimedia aspects of journalism. The VanCougar’s operations are considerably more student-led than what I experienced at the Clark Indy, and I am excited to join a publication that challenges me to step outside of my comfort zone. In particular, my goals at The VanCougar are to increase engagement online by incorporating more interactive multimedia elements on our website and to support our ongoing monthly printing operations as an editor.
This is your student news publication just as much as it is ours, and we welcome anyone who has a story to tell to reach out to us, whether online or in-person at our office at the north side of the Dengerink Administration Building.
Go Cougs!
2023 Associate Managing Editor
