Hi VanCougs! My name is Midori Davis, and I am pleased to serve again in my second semester as editor-in-chief of e VanCougar Newsmagazine. I got my start in journalism as a reporter at Clark College’s Clark Indy newspaper, and joined e VanCougar when I transferred to WSU Vancouver in spring of 2023.
The VanCougar was fortunate to have my dedicated predecessors help keep it alive through the pandemic, and my goal now is to keep it growing. Despite budget cuts, the VanCougar has persisted. I strongly urge the university to consider the value of local, independent journalism and recognize the significance of serving students by keeping them informed and amplifying their voices. There is no shortage of interesting people doing all kinds of interesting things in our community, and it is our job to find and tell their stories. I am honored and very excited to continue our work in serving the students of this campus.
Every wave of new hires brings a fresh energy and excitement in finding and writing stories to deliver, and their enthusiasm and synergy is absolutely infectious. I love our team and the way we build off of each others’ passion to challenge each other and push our limits.
The VanCougar exists for you, our readers, and we welcome you to reach out to us at van.vc.editor@wsu.edu or in-person at our once on the north side of the Dengerink Administration Building. Questions, comments, and tips on local happenings are always welcome!
Go Cougs! 2024 Editor-in-Chief Midori Davis
From the Managing Editor:
You Can Do This
Hey VanCougs, My name is Jordhen Wangchuk, and I am the managing editor this fall at e VanCougar. I transferred here at WSU Vancouver as a sophomore in 2021, and I am on track to graduate this December with a bachelor’s in both accounting and finance.
After being recruited by past managing editor Jagger Norris in spring 2023, I began doing work on the magazine behind the scenes as a copy editor, and I’ve really enjoyed meeting new people while developing my skills.
Though my majors aren’t related to writing or journalism, I’ve found success, connections, and friends at the VanCougar. You don’t need to be a communications, english, or DTC major to get involved in journalism, and hard work matters far more than pre-existing skills.
I’ve learned so much about the field of journalism and all the interesting things happening on this campus. Visual and literary arts are a passion of mine, and journalism has plenty of craftwork and possibilities that have kept me hooked during my time here.
As the managing editor, I look forward to supporting and guiding the team during my last semester at WSU Vancouver, continuing the efforts of my predecessors to keep this newsmagazine going and growing. Everyone I’ve worked with has been great, and it’s inspiring to see such engagement and effort from my team. Let’s rise to the challenge again this year!
Best wishes, Fall 2024 Managing Editor Jordhen Wangchuk
