Hello VanCougs!
My name is Mercedes Rowland, and I am the managing editor for The Vancougar this semester. I am currently a junior and in my second semester at WSU Vancouver, after transferring from Lower Columbia College. My major is Digital Technology and Culture.
I am entirely new to the world of journalism but very familiar with project management and overseeing team operations, as well as clerical tasks. As a non-traditional student, I’ve worked in various industries and have had many job titles prior to my time here on campus. These experiences have helped greatly so far in this new position as well as within academics.
What I look forward to most is getting to know everyone that is a part of The VanCougar, in addition to having a behind-the-scenes look into journalism. Working with a team is something that I enjoy, and my goal is to ensure that I support my team to the best of my ability.
It is exciting to have the opportunity to view our campus from a different perspective and to hear from staff and students alike. There are many stories to tell at WSU Vancouver, and I know that with our diverse group of talented and driven individuals, we will not disappoint.
