Hey Vancougs!
My name is Gracie Newberry – I am a senior anthropology major, political science minor and the new editor-in-chief of The VanCougar Newsmagazine! I have been a student journalist for three years now, including serving as managing editor of The VanCougar last semester. I am honored to take on this new role as the team changes with winter graduates. I am beyond thankful to be filling this position with the support of such a well-rounded and talented team.
Over the last few months, I have seen WSU Vancouver blossom into an even more thriving community as it bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic. I see campus bustling with students who are creative, passionate, welcoming and community-driven. This fills me with joy as a peer but also excites my journalism senses. I am thrilled to be able to lead a team of killer journalists who are motivated by authentic storytelling.
This semester I am looking forward to pushing the boundaries of what has been done in the past. I want The VanCougar to be a mix of hard-hitting news coverage alongside entertaining profiles of our community. I am enthusiastic to engage the community even more, opening more channels of communication between you and The VanCougar.
As I said in my letter last semester, I would like to reiterate the importance of transparency to our operation at The VanCougar. We have an obligation to truthfully report on the stories of the underrepresented. We are a medium by which your voice can be heard!
If you have any comments, concerns, questions, story ideas or would like to get involved, please reach out to me at van.vc.editor@wsu.edu. You can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Coug Presence! As always, our office is open to visitors.
See ya around!
2023 Editor-in-Chief
