As a teenager, showing up to family events can be a chore, something taken for granted. The days of old friends and the memories one makes dinking around as kids. People grow up and you start learning life’s lessons and meanings with a richness that comes with age. You want so badly to grow up, and when you are finally grown, you look back to the days when you had less responsibilities with fondness.
Well, what can we do? How do we enjoy life when it goes by so fast, as this past semester has? Like a good meal, you should savor it. Life, prepared with fine ingredients like love, education, and a thirst for opportunity, make it worthwhile. The VanCougar has a few ideas of events you can do and places you can go with your family over the break:
Eating – speaking of a good meal, what is better at bringing people together than food? Everyone can do their part to help prepare the food, set the table, etc., and then you get to eat. Use the opportunity to learn about your family or just talk about what is going on in your life.
Games – playing games can be a way to reach out and spend some quality time for those a bit shy to get a conversation going. It is a great way to get to know someone better, whether through board games and managing little resources or when settling disputes over fictional lands.
Hiking – we live in Washington, a place known for its greenery and lush hiking trails, even on campus. We highly recommend getting out there with your family and exploring. After all, what’s the point of life if you don’t live it?
Movies – good films are timeless; everybody loves to laugh and it’s such a gift to make people smile. We recommend watching a good movie, whether recent or a classic. Something cozy and warm for everyone to watch.
From The VanCougar to you all, we hope you have a wonderful break and get closer to what really matters most to you.
