Cougar Bites: Foods to put you in the mood

Can your performance in the kitchen be carried over to the bedroom? Food, like sex, produces dopamine in our bodies that increase happiness and well-being, so it’s no secret that these two are connected. These four foods, among others, could spice up your life inside and outside the kitchen.

Almonds

Healthy nuts, like almonds, contain necessary fats to boost sex drive and reproduction. Almonds contain minerals such as zinc, which helps produce sexual hormones, such as testosterone, in both men and women. A chemical compound called L-arginine is also found in almonds, which helps facilitate blood flow to genitals, according to Healthline.

Chocolate

This sweet treat is not only the ultimate symbol for romance, but it also contains phenylethylamine and serotonin, which both improve overall energy and mood.  According to Healthline, chocolate can also help increase sex drive, serving as an aphrodisiac.

Oysters

Shellfish, such as oysters, clams, scallops and crabs, all contain compounds that raise testosterone and estrogen levels, which can help with vaginal lubrication. According to Healthline, boosts in hormones translate into heightened sexual desires. Oysters are also an excellent source of zinc, which increases blood flow to sexual organs.

Apples

This juicy fruit is rich in natural pigments, such as quercetin, which promotes blood circulation around the body. According to Healthline, apples have chemicals that can reduce sexual discomfort and raise sexual desire.

While research indicates that these foods can improve sexual performance, there is not a definite answer. However, adding these foods to a balanced diet can promote overall health and happiness within your everyday life.
